FORT
GEORGE - Investigation July 25, 2004
We had a great group for this investigation. There were 16 of us, and everyone was great to be with. It was a very active and interesting night. Upstairs in Blockhouse Two, above the Barracks, there was a definite cold spot in the room. We felt that we weren't alone in there. Doug felt a hand on his shoulder. He let it stay there for a few minutes, then slowly and casually raised his camera to take a picture over his shoulder. It was the only picture on his camera that came out totally dark. Also in this part of the building, some people heard footsteps. Downstairs in the barracks, I felt sick to my stomach, which has never happened to me in that building before, although it has happened to me in other parts of the Fort. Also, when first entering the Barracks, Chris and Mark were at the front of the group, and they saw a diagonal line of light flash across the bricks behind the stove. After we left Blockhouse Two, Mark looked back and saw a figure come a couple of feet out of the door on the Supply Depot side, and then go back in. In the back part of the Fort, four of us smelled apples (Mark, Margaret, Michael, and myself). Another person later said they'd also smelled apples in the tunnel, but unfortunately I forget which gentleman told me that. Also, going down the ramp toward the tunnel, Mark and I smelled a very strong smell of sweetgrass. Before we went into the tunnel, a lot of us saw a figure in the left window at the back of the Gift Shop. The figure was first seen to come to the middle of the window and look out, and then it kept moving back and forth. The right window also had a figure, and then something appeared to be blocking the light. When most of us were in the tunnel, Mark saw the "mystery" door on the side of the Gift Shop appear all lit up, and a figure came out and went around the back of the Gift Shop. In the tunnel, we saw dark figures at the end of the tunnel, back toward the door, and sometimes the doorway looked to be blocked out. Also, some of us heard a weird "thump". Between the Artificer's Shop and the Gift Shop, there was a period of time that I felt like I couldn't breathe. In the Officers' Quarters, almost everybody in the group saw the eyes on the portrait of Queen Charlotte blinking. Also, the face appeared to keep changing from an older lady to a younger lady. In the Officers' Quarters as well, we tried to coax out the "ghost cat". When Mark was calling to it, Margaret heard a faint "meow". At some point (I'm not sure exactly when, but I think it was shortly after we entered the Fort), Kathryn saw a white figure by the gates, from across the Parade Square. Margaret also saw someone or something moving by the gates during the evening. As a point of interest, the night of this investigation seems to have been an incredibly active night all the way around. I've heard some things that happened on other tours that night. Also, Anthony (the person who had sent the evp of the little girls giggling (see EVP - Page 7) has sent me another amazing evp and some pictures from that night. (See the Fort George page in the Photo section, as well as EVP - Page 15).
